Cultures, subcultures and rituals :)

Hello guys! It's been a long time. How have you been? My school is almost finished. I have some exams and theeeeennn finallyyy VACATIONN!! Yaaaayyyyy XD Today I'm going to talk about cultures, subcultures and rituals.

I'm going to begin with culture. Culture is the way of life of a particular people, especially as shown in their ordinary behavior and habits, their attitudes toward each other, and their moral and religious beliefs.

For example:

World view Our Food Our religion History Folk dances Tradition and Customs Art Our language and the list goes on and on :)

I'm Turkish and in our culture for example being hospitable is very important. Also our foods like menemen, dolma, kebap, baklava, lahmacun (also known as ''Turkish pizza''), Turkish delight and our drinks like Tukish tea and Turkish coffee are very famous. Turkish hamam, Turkish rugs and carpets, traditional clothes like ''bindallı'' or traditional arts like ''Ebru art'' and traditional dances like ''horon, zeybek, halay'' are very famous in our country.

We have also subcultures. Subcultures are the way of life, customs, and ideas of a particular group of people within a society, which are different from the rest of that society. It's kind of a life style.

Hippies, gothics, muslims, jewish people, christians, skaters, metalheads, cosplayers... These are subcultures.

For example, I'm muslim and I'm an amateur pianist.

And the last one is ''rituals''. A religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order. It doesn't always have to depend on a religion. I mean you can have a ''morning ritual'' like mornings drinking at least 2 cups of ginger tea or doing meditation or doing a morning workout.

I'm going to talk about a traditional Turkish wedding ritual ''Henna Night''.

The henna night is a deep-rooted wedding ritual in Turkish culture that generally happens one day before the wedding ceremony where the bride celebrates her big day with family members and friends before tying the knot. A young woman sitting in the circle of other women, her head covered with red ornate scarf. All other women keep singing ('Yüksek Yüksek Tepelere' (a common emotional song that is used for brides-to-be in Turkish culture)), circling and dancing around her timidly with lit candles carrying on their hands. There is a high chance at some level, bride and mother of her may burst into tears. While singing they put henna into palms of the bride-to-be with a coin of gold by the mother and mother-in-law. It is more like a ceremony of passing daughter to other family. After all that singing and crying, everything gets brighter and music starts for dancing! The rest of the night is all yours to dance :)

That was todays topic. I hope you liked it. See you guys in next blog :)
